Actually if you listened to this interview carfully you would’ve gotten an answer as to why Elon thinks about life on Mars. It’s because, he says, “sustainable energy will happen inevitably, but if there’s no one working on making humanity a multiplanetary species, our abilities to take humans to outer space will not automatically improve, but actually *degrade* over time. In 1969 NASA was able to send humans to the Moon, and after that they had decades of stagnation and right now, we *cannot* send humans to the Moon. So we need guys like Elon Musk to be working on that and keeping our abilities fresh. Dude spends 1-3% of his time working on digging tunnels under L.A to improve traffic, he runs an EV company, he wants to make solar roofs for everyone, etc. what else do you want from him? What he does as a hobby is 10,000% more productive than what an average human does in their lifetime.
